Undergraduate research assistants play a vital role in the Laboratory for Anxiety and Substance Abuse Research. Research assistants are involved in all aspects of lab research, including preparing materials, implementing research protocols, being research confederates, and managing data. Advanced students are often involved in training new research assistants and may seek opportunities to complete an independent research project in the form of a thesis, conference presentation, or publication. Please see Undergraduate Training under the “About LASAR” tab for more information pertaining to research assistant training and opportunities.

We are currently looking for talented and motivated undergraduate students with an interest in gaining research experience. Students with an interest in anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, and/or learning about using the bar-laboratory to study the effects of alcohol are particularly encouraged to apply. The first step in becoming involved in the lab is to complete an application here. We will contact potential applicants for an interview. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Ham (Lham@uark.edu).

“Being a research assistant in LASAR has benefitted me in so many ways. By actually being able to help set up and run real experiments, I have learned much more about research methodology than I would have by taking traditional classes alone, and I have had fun doing it. The lab has also prepared me for the application process should I choose to apply to a graduate program. Everyone in the lab is nice and very helpful. I think any psychology student could also benefit greatly from the knowledge and the opportunities the lab provides.” – JJ Molinaro

“Through the LASAR lab, I have had the chance to gain hands-on research experience and develop my own studies. Thanks to the mentorship of Dr. Ham and her Ph.D. students, I have been awarded grant funding and have had the opportunity to present my research at state and national conferences. Participating in LASAR lab was a great way to develop my research skills and prepare for graduate school.” –  Alita Mobley
